That's interesting, because I was when I watched this last year, and I watched it again yesterday, as I say, and the thing that it reminds me of so much is something that would probably if it was around at the time is set 96, it would easily be like a screen one.

Yeah, screen two.

The idea of fantasy adaptations.

If this was written in the 90s, if this

was a screen one, it's like casting name a cherry or something like that, isn't it? You just wouldn't expect.

On the podcast this week, Julie Waters and Victoria Wood are long lost sisters in the 1994 BBC Screen One original, Pat and Margaret.

My guest is cartoonist and graphic novelist, Matthew Dooley.

Matthew is the author of Flake, which won the Woodhouse Bollinger Prize and was a Guardian Book of the Year.

And the fact that she was sort of rewriting it, like she would go back and give them new pages and stuff, and she had already had sort of 25 years of, not quite that, certainly 20-plus years, wasn't it?

of experience you know you kind of can't do that without um you know she's built those skills she's built up and whatnot so i i was not familiar with this film i'd never never heard of it i've actually heard of screen one i'd heard of screen two you know with uh you know like alan clark films and stuff you know these kind of like uh kind of sort of edgy or maybe bbc2 dramas and stuff um But this film had entirely passed me by.

And before we get into the more specifics of it, I've got to say, I thought it was brilliant.
