Scout Law

If every boy in the United States between the ages of twelve and seventeen could be placed under the wholesome influences of the Scout program and should live up to the Scout Oath and Rules, we would hear fewer pessimistic words as to the future of our nation.

The boy, on becoming a Scout, binds himself on his honor to do his best, as the oath reads, quote, one, to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law.

Two, to help other people at all times.

Three, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

The twelve articles in these Scout Laws are not prohibitions, but obligations, affirmative rules of conduct.

Members must promise to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

How comprehensive this list.

And he shared it out on Cub Scout Volunteers.

And it has all of the different ranks and then all the requirements across the ranks so that if you as a leader were working with a den or a pack of multi-rank kids, you'd be able to go, oh, Yes, I see that you get to know the member of your den or your patrol is part of everybody's requirements, right? Or, you know, if you've got to be the scout or the scout law, those are part of all these requirements.

So I love that.

I love.

And, you know, remembering that we have games, that they are games with a purpose.

So let's think about what the purpose is, not what the requirement is.

uh the second piece of advice i think i would give anybody is you know don't teach bobcat do the bobcat don't lecture about a scout about the scout law play a game that's going to teach it and there are hundreds of games out there and any even ones that haven't or aren't on our website or aren't on the facebook groups find a game that you like and adapt it You know, we're not going to talk about them leadership.

We want our scouts to actually lead.

agoWe make a promise to do our duty to God and our country, and to obey the Scout law.

Duty to one's God for a Muslim means Ibadah, worship of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.

And we have the opportunity to worship Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala in our normal ibadat, like Salah five times a day, or in case we're travelers, as we are here at summer camp, three times a day, and the other acts of worship.

The National Islamic Committee on Scouting established this program to recognize outstanding service by adults in the promotion of scouting among Muslim youth.

Scout is reverend.

It's one of the points of the Scout Law, and scouting allows, uh, us as Muslims to fulfill some of our own requirements of reverence.

Um, and one of the ways that they do that is allowing us to go for our own religious emblem badge.

When Sir Robert Baden-Powell formed the first troop of Boy Scouts, 6,000 girls enrolled themselves.

But as Sir Robert's project did not include the admission of girls, he asked his sister, Miss Baden-Powell, to found a similar organization for girls based on the Boy Scout laws, with activities and occupations properly adapted for girls.

She then founded the Girl Guide organization.

In America, in March 1912, the first patrols of Girl Guides were enrolled by Miss Juliet Lowe in Savannah, Georgia.

In 1913, the national headquarters were established by her in Washington, D.C., and Miss Edith Johnston became the national secretary.

The name Girl Guides was then changed to Girl Scouts because the object of the organization is to promote the ten Scout laws, truth, loyalty, helpfulness, friendliness, courtesy, kindness, obedience, cheerfulness, purity, and thrift.

The movement then grew and spread in a remarkable way.

In 1915, a convention of Girl Scout leaders from most of the large cities was held, and a national council was formed, composed of delegates from the cities or communities where more than 100 Girl Scouts were enrolled.

Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Yeah
