Scott Oake

It was a great time, and it was really kinda cool to, to be in the rink where I went to his boyhood home, Dave Keon, and, uh, that was neat.

And I'll tell you something, you guys, uh, not to drop names, [laughs] but I was with Wayne Gretzky at Scott Oakes' event on Thursday night over in Winnipeg, and he was talking, uh, he, he mentioned, you know Wayne, he's a hockey geek.

He said, "This is the day that Paul, or Phil Esposito gave his amazing speech in Vancouver." Uh, and I thought about you guys having Paul Henderson on during the Four Nations, and he was sensational.

Wayne went on that night about how Paul has to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame, and he did a really good little talk about that subject.

And, you know, we made some changes.

I've worked with Kelly and Scott for 20 years.

It's gonna be 20-plus years, 23.

It's gonna be really weird not to work with them.

You know, we're leaving the media tour early, Kyle.

You and I are headed to Winnipeg overnight on Wednesday night/Thursday morning to go to Scott's charity event.

Mm-hmm.

Um, it's gonna be weird without them.

Uh, to me, this has been a, um, a labor of love.

Uh, from Dick Irvin, to Scott Oake, to Kelly Hrudey, Mickey Redmond, Ken Daniels, Mark Askin, Glenn Adamo, now Cuthbert and Hodge.

Uh, it has been fun for Darren and me to explore exactly what Hockey Night means to so many people, and what it meant to work there, and the impact it had, uh, not only on the game, but what an impact it had on the people's careers.

So without further ado, some time with Chris Cuthbert and Dave Hodge, reflecting on Hockey Night in Canada on this edition of 100% Hockey.

Um, I think Scott Russell did it a couple of times.

And did Oakey ever do it?

I think Scott Oake did, yeah.
