On his podcast, Giant Silent Bob Get Old, Kevin Smith went on at length about how much of a headache this movie was, mostly owing to Jason Mewes' drug and alcohol abuse, turning him into, quote, a ticking time bomb, end quote.

During pre-production, Smith and other crew members had to spend inordinate amounts of time keeping Mewes off of drugs, and while shooting, Mewes would have constant mood swings due to his withdrawal from heroin, to the point that Kevin Smith threw him out of his car on the way to the set one day.

Mewes would compensate for his lack of drugs by drinking heavily after every day of shooting and nearly got into a fist fight with assistant director and producer Scott Mosier when he had to come back one night for a reshoot while drunk.

Mewes later said he was too intoxicated to remember anything that happened during the production of this movie.

Some of the people that were there day to day on the production and some of their background, which is pretty cool.

And a lot of commentaries, including one by Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier for the length of the feature, which is pretty cool and funny.

I have a tendency to say that's pretty cool a lot on this one.

I'll do my best, folks, to move on from it.

It's one of the best DVD commentary tracks I've ever heard because it's Kevin Smith, Jason Lee.

It's not Jeremy London, but it's like Jason Lee, Jason Mewes, Scott Mosier, who is a producer on almost all of Kevin Smith's stuff and also in this in a small role.

Uh, Ben Affleck is there and they're all just sitting around chatting.

And it almost like you could imagine these guys all have like a beer or a joint or something and they're just hanging out.

Yep.

It was directed by Scott Mosier and Yarrow Cheney with a budget of $75 million, which notably is much cheaper than the live action version.

Benedict Cumberbatch stepped in to voice the Grinch.

Pharrell Williams provided a very modern hip hop inflected narration, and Cameron Seely voiced Cindy Lou Who.

A very safe bet.

Directors Yarrow Cheney and Scott Mosier executed a very deliberate, highly calculated softening of the source material.

Yeah.

They cast Benedict Cumberbatch.

So much so that he and his producing partner, Scott Mosier, provided an audio commentary track for the film's 2006 deluxe DVD release, and I'm happy to say it has been included on all other Blu-ray and 4K disc releases.

Uh, I was excited, uh, Arrow did a gorgeous box set of Road House that I happen to have, and it is on there, and it is awesome.

I strongly recommend.
