And the other thing was I wanted to start raising money for cancer research so that if I could find a cure for her cancer, I would know why I was born, basically.

Like, why am I here? I was adopted at six weeks of age.

Why, why was I brought into this world? Why, you know? Um, got to work as a fundraiser and, and raised money wherever I could and, and would donate it directly towards research, not towards administrative costs or infrastructure.

It went straight to research.

It was two months shy of the 20th anniversary of losing my mom that I'm diagnosed with cancer.

So now it's like, "Oh, am I gonna suffer, diminish, and die like she did?" And the doctor sat me down and they said, "No, you have an 80 to 90% chance of surviving." Why? How? And they said, "Research." [laughs]

from living in your friend's basement with a gold medal in your pocket.

To joining the Ice Capades.

And I did that for two years.

I had a third year option.

And I just thought, this is incredible.

I'm finally able to kind of support myself in a completely independent way.

And I bought a little condo downtown Denver, which was awesome.

It was, um, abdominal.

Um, it was in abdominal.

So I didn't know what was causing it, so I called my manager, Bob, and, uh, he answers the phone and he goes, "Hello." I go, "Hey, Bob, it's Scott." And he goes, uh, "How's it going out there?" And I go, "Good.

Um, are you s- I need...

Um, are you sitting down?" He goes, uh, "I..." "No, no, you're not.

You're in the kitchen.

How lucky is this gentleman, Scott?

Uh, extremely lucky, uh, on, on two counts really.

One, this debris could have gone into the fuselage and hit him and, and who knows what the outcome would've been at that point.

Uh, the second is that this happened at a low altitude.

The airplane was on climb out from the airport, and the information that I read was that it happened at around 13,000 feet.

Uh, there was a similar incident a number of years ago with Southwest Airlines in the United States, uh, at cruising altitude, 36,000 feet or something like that, and that lady was s- partially sucked out to her waist.

And of course, at 36,000 feet, you, you just don't have any air to breathe.

So, so what is it that could potentially be done, and will it be something that, that major airlines will now be looking at around the world?

Mm

... is, is probably the best way of saying it.

And then again, you throw an All Black jersey on, um, and they, yeah, they grow an extra leg.

So it's an interesting one.

I, you know, is it coaching with the All Blacks? Is that, is that a, a- an issue with the environment at, at Super, at Super level? Um, that's something to think of.

But yeah, it's, I don't know, back, back when I was kicking around, you know, obviously we had a, a pretty strong Crusaders team, um, plenty of All Blacks, but we were very tight-knit as well and, and there were plenty of times that we came up against Blues, Chiefs or Hurricanes teams that were pretty keen to knock us off, but generally didn't quite do it.

Um, and yeah, I don't know.

Do you see a high-scoring game, or are you gonna see this is test match footy? This is test match footy, and it's gonna be a lot closer and a lot tighter than that.

But it was back when they didn't really have any understanding of how to treat it back then.

You know, there was a few drugs they created to kind of see if they could kill the weaker cells and hopefully not kill the patient, you know, while they're going through it.

So, um, the first time I ever knew anybody that went through cancer was my mom and she came home from a doctor visit and just decided we're going to have a family meeting and she said, everybody around the table, we're going to have, and we never had a family meeting before.

It's a family meeting.

You know, we're all busy doing our things and we're all crazy.

Too much.

That had to be your life.

It was.

I mean, but it was something that, you know, I was very sick as a child.

So, you know, for four years, I didn't really grow or develop very much.

And so I've been in hospitals, you know, all those, you know, started in Bowling Green, Ohio, where I grew up.

And then I went to Toledo, bigger hospital, bigger doctors, you know.

And then, you know, they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me.

So

That had to be your life.

It was.

I mean, but it was something that, you know, I was very sick as a child.

So, you know, for four years, I didn't really grow or develop very much.

And so I've been in hospitals, you know, all those, you know, started in Bowling Green, Ohio, where I grew up.

And then I went to Toledo, bigger hospital, bigger doctors, you know, and then no, no, you know, they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me.

So we went to Ann Arbor, to University of Michigan Children's Hospital.

How do you think moving forward that's going to be for Texas Tech living with the likes of Baylor and TCU right down the road?

Well, first of all, Cody Campbell's a hypocrite because he's saying he's protecting the kid, doing what's right for the kid.

But then out of the other side of his mouth, he's saying we need legislation to enforce gambling rules.

And arbitrarily, you know, that's the Tech College Sports Act.

But as far as Texas Tech, it's going to be rough.

And this is a challenge for Brett Yormark.

And I got to give you this.

Do you think we'll be a step closer when this meeting concludes in Denver to have a better idea of where the SEC maybe have a little bit more wiggle room in which maybe meet the Big Ten in the middle of the way, maybe go to a, I don't know, maybe get the big 10 to go to the 16 teams what do you think are we just going to keep kicking the can down the road

So as far as the NFL perspective on this moving forward now, Scott, what do you envision for Brendan Sorsby if the supplemental draft, if that comes to fruition? Who are some teams that you could see maybe taking a chance on him, and what does that look like? Maybe a second round, third round, fourth round pick in the supplemental draft? Where are you right now on what that's going to look like?

I wouldn't even presume to be in the head of a general manager of the NFL.
