Scott Hahn

And he became Catholic.

And he gave me the Scott Hahn conversion story, the original OG story on a VHS tape.

And I'm like, I don't know about this, but I went home and I think the next day or two, I watched it.

And of course I, Like so many other people, that just blew my mind.

They can feel overwhelmed about learning all the doctrines and the dogmas, et cetera.

So how did that all come about for you?

i i'm not an academic guy you know um i'm not like a theologian so to me i was never going to be the the scott hahn i was never going to be the john bergsman i was never going to be the steve ray who was going to write books i was never in my thinking i never thought i'd be doing any of this but about a year like so so when i became catholic father chris pulled me aside one day he says keith don't do anything for a year.

And I said, what does that mean? I don't know what you're talking about.

I knew an old priest who knew him.

I've had Dr. John Grabowski sitting right here who's kind of accredited for, Scott Hahn credits him for kind of helping to put Catholic youth theology department back on track after this guy gets kicked out.

This is an amazing character in human history, still alive, 93 years old, I think.

Tell us the story.

And it wasn't until I became Catholic that I was exposed to typology.

And I started binge listening to the lectures of Scott Hahn and Bernie Petrie and Bergsman and Barber and William Marshner and just all...

All of these these professors that were just blowing my reading their books and hiring them as speakers at conferences that I was running.

And it was just pretty amazing.

Recovering innocence in a secular world may begin with recovering our memory.

See, I remember Scott Hahn saying that Catholics have a short memory.

You don't remember this, you remember that.

Yeah, I know, he's right.

I sort of imagine that he's received a list of – Catholic Bible scholars that he should interview.

Scott Hahn's going to be on that list.

Cardinal Burke mentioned him in this interview.

I imagine Mike Schmitz is going to be on that list, Father Mike, because he has the world's largest podcast, The Bible in a Year.

That went super mega viral, so I can't imagine he doesn't make that list.

I would love to see a few other Catholic Scripture scholar professors make that list.

Scott Hahn himself wrote a great book called on criticizing the historical critical method of the Bible.

It's called Politicizing the Bible.

Um, Heather Howard, a 42-year-old mother with two from Bloomington, Indiana, started with the Father Mike Schmidt's catechism in the year podcast and found herself, in her own surprise, longing for the Holy Eucharist in a way weekly communions free Protestant services couldn't even come up with.

And think about this, [coughs] Scott Hahn, 40 years ago, did The Lamb's Supper.

I recorded it back in the 1990, I think.

It ended up becoming a book, and it's fed so many non-Catholics to become Catholics because they understand if t- if that's really Jesus, we don't get that as a Protestant, only if you're Catholic.

Now, for decades, going back, uh, our Blessed Mother has been a roadblock for people, but also it's a gate for many people.

I remember Scott Hahn telling me this almost 40 years ago when he prayed the rosary for the first time and said, "If I'm offending you, dear Lord, stop me, but I'm gonna try this." And I've had other friends do the same thing.

So [lip smack] I think what's happened is Protestants are fighting over women's roles, and, uh, the Southern Baptist Convention recently took p- um, public against, uh, you know, um, whether it's, uh, right for women's abortion.

You know, there are all these issues.
