And I do have some experience with this pushback because a few years ago, I wrote a book about the first years at NASA, and it included some slightly unflattering information about the pioneering class of astronauts, you know, guys like Alan Shepard and Scott Carpenter.

And a small but very vocal group of old dudes got mad at me.

And, like, I hear you.

Not only that, but those fireflies became a recurring phenomenon.

Both astronauts Scott Carpenter and Gordon Cooper Jr. reported seeing them during subsequent Mercury missions.

So not long after Project Mercury had ended, NASA began its second human space flight program, Project Gemini.

The crystals that formed near the spacecraft looked like brilliant stars when they were illuminated by the sun.

Although not quite as grand, astronaut Scott Carpenter also noted that he could see these fireflies when he tapped the walls of the space capsule.

So no real mystery to this one, just flakes getting dislodged off the surface of the craft and floating into space.

And so a big auditorium full of the, the three astronauts.

It was Wally Schirra, Gordon Cooper, and Scott Carpenter.

Hmm.

A- and, and heroes here, a- and, uh, I had a chance to hear them speak.

And, uh, and so what's it like to be an astronaut, and zero gravity, and how do you go to the bathroom, and all those things.

Uh, little kids do that.

I got up and I asked Scott Carpenter, I said, 'cause he'd been at SEALAB, he was the only guy, one of the few people who'd been an astronaut and a aquanaut.

And so I asked him how he compared the two.

Well I can tell you this much you know Scott Carpenter was a good friend of mine you know we weren't like every day close like Martin and Barton and I saw but you know he was a good friend he helped me rebuke some creatures that were trying to destroy my farm and my animals back in 2020 and Scott was out numerous times and he hiked a lot of different trails up in the Smokies and other areas there and had a lot of encounters, a tremendous lot of encounters, even with portals opening behind him and stories he had told me of where they came to his house, too.

And I will never believe that, you know, I miss that guy.

He was just a real credible, great guy that we lost.

Nobody will replace Scott Carpenter and his work, but I'll never believe that he just passed from an aneurysm.

I think these things can take a toll on your body.

You know, I don't want to be zapped by them, but I don't know how to stop from being, unless you just stay away from them altogether.
