Scorpio

One musician we know was there is guitarist Dennis Coffey.

In 1966 Coffey was still an independent session gun, years away from his trademark wah-wah guitar work and his 1971 solo hit Scorpio.

In his autobiography Coffey recalled cutting the rhythm tracks for Open the Door to Your Heart live in the room late at night, where you had to nail the groove in two or three takes with no room for error.

In fact, Coffey credited his playing on that very record as the reason James Jemison later recommended him to Norman Whitfield, opening the door for Coffey to become a full-time funk brother.
