SciPy

It's a GPU-accelerated Python library for DSP built on PyTorch, with FHIR and IRR filters and a pipe operator for chaining.

Their benchmarks show significant efficiency gains over traditional libraries like SciPy, particularly in multichannel contexts.

But the paper itself notes current limitations in GPU compatibility.

Multichannel being the operative phrase.

And in that case then, now then we have to ship two things or three things to them, right? It gets even worse if we have to ship a conda environment YAML file, whereas Marimo notebooks can actually just carry their own environment definition and therefore, you know, not like it literally can be a single file that I send over to someone else.

In fact, one of my friends, Hugo, last year at SciPy, he asked me, He nerd sniped me into putting a script for him.

And then I did it entirely in Marimo notebooks and I just dropped in the script and it worked flawlessly because I designed it to be UV.

Like it carried its own end through PEP 723 style inline script metadata.

Okay.

He invented things like SciPy, NumPy, NumFocus.

Anaconda is a company that he built.

He invented the ima- imaging libraries for Python, which is a language that most of modern internet is built on.

And so there've been a lot of years, a lot of conferences and a lot of alcoholic beverages in between now and then.

It makes sense though, SciPy.

I think Leland, a lot of your tools have been in Python and you have a lot of implementations of things in Python.

Do you go to most of the SciPy conferences?

I went for many years.

I didn't go this year and I missed a few years around COVID.

And it does, it makes me think, before when you were talking about, forget about titles, think about tasks, what you do, these types of things.

It does actually remind me at SciPy many years ago, before the plague that we seem to, you know, not talk about anymore.

At SciPy in Austin, I was sitting with Anthony Skopatz.

who, old friend, big guy in Python.

And I said to him, I said to him, do you miss being a scientist? Because we both used to be research scientists.
