David TaylorHOST
2:48
It's about 54 miles.
David TaylorHOST
2:50
The route itself takes in Great Gable and Scafell Pike.
David TaylorHOST
2:56
And it was a really important race because it was back to... um longer distances so my comeback i suppose was uh first of all the maverick 50k up in the ohos um you know good chunky um but a climbing 7 000 odd feet of climbing across that race then my nemesis race there a rare way and that went um as well as i could have hoped so i've kind of got that monkey off my back um so this was really a race to see actually where am I as far as mountain running goes the training block I suppose it really started when I was able to run around about springtime really having to get back into get back into decent shape having been out with the Achilles injury for quite a while and become a bit of a cyclist but what I wanted to do was have a series of events so that I was getting milestones along the way so August was the Opus 50k September was River Airway October was the Ultra England and then that's when I was going to see where I was, have a huge winter training walk and then that should see where I am come springtime and then really start looking seriously about the Bob Graham round perhaps next summer at some point So that was all good.
David TaylorHOST
4:26
I'm maybe not in quite as good a shape as I was when I was just before 13 valleys last year, but I was doing pretty well.
Darren HazelwoodGUEST
9:30
Don't forget, you know, people forget that the elevation of much of Ontario is sort of anywhere between 1,300 and 1,500 feet.
Darren HazelwoodGUEST
9:39
We're halfway up Scarfell Pike in the UK, in England, the highest mountain in England.
Darren HazelwoodGUEST
9:45
um by the time you're just standing on standing on a flat plane in ontario um but as a result you know weather conditions can be challenging um but nothing that you can't get over with the right access and that's exactly what we've developed and look we've hit 11.6 sensing we've hit massive and semi-massive sulfide we've and now we've we've we've we're seeing copper um The ingredients have always been there, but that ingredients are expanding and knowledge is expanded, our understanding expanded.
Darren HazelwoodGUEST
10:21
And from a personal perspective, I can't wait to get back on there.
Sam MacleanHOST
15:33
It's across a year.
Sam MacleanHOST
15:35
So I think it was May, September and October, the three events, and each of the triathlons is based around one of the th- three peaks in the UK, so Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike.
Sam MacleanHOST
15:47
And you-- these are like somewhere between an Olympic and a Half Ironman, um, distance in, and they're sort of broken up different ways.
Sam MacleanHOST
16:00
So you do the swim into a half cycle, into the mountain, back into a cycle, back to where you started.
Ryan BridgeGUEST
9:34
We're gonna do, um, we're gonna do also, uh, the highest point in England and in Scotland.
Ryan BridgeGUEST
9:40
So you've got Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and you've got, uh, Mount Snowdon." So we started in Wales and we went to Mount Snowdon.
Ryan BridgeGUEST
9:47
We, we, the, the object was to get the big flag, as you can see us there, holding it all the way up.
Ryan BridgeGUEST
9:51
Um, you know, and we'd done like 30,000 steps that day.
Ryan BridgeGUEST
12:51
Um, so we're gonna go to Ben Nevis, which is in Scotland.
Ryan BridgeGUEST
12:54
That's the highest, that's the highest point in Great Britain, as you correctly said.
Ryan BridgeGUEST
12:58
Um, the second is Scafell Pike.
Ryan BridgeGUEST
13:00
Well done.
David TaylorHOST
13:03
My plan was to hit the two peaks in the race.
David TaylorHOST
13:06
So that is Great Gable and Scafell Pike.
David TaylorHOST
13:09
And then do a kind of loop back to where I'd parked the car at Rothwaite.
David TaylorHOST
13:15
But that loop back was also going to take in some of the Bob Graham tops, but kind of do it in reverse.
David TaylorHOST
15:19
It was just a bunch of rocks along the side of a river.
David TaylorHOST
15:23
So really slow going, but it meant it wasn't at the top of a hill.
David TaylorHOST
15:26
So I didn't manage to get up Scafell Pike and see that.
David TaylorHOST
15:29
There was nowhere near those Bob Graham hills, but I did make it back.
Tim ShipmanGUEST
8:24
[laughs]
Isabel HardmanGUEST
8:24
Yeah, or Sc- Scafell Pike, and then realizing that-
Tim ShipmanGUEST
8:27
To Beachy Head of his political ambitions anyway
Isabel HardmanGUEST
8:27
... that actually they were only wearing trainers, and that they needed to be rescued by the mountain rescue force.
Bex MilnesHOST
32:37
It really can.
Jess LearmonthHOST
32:37
When did I go Scafell Pike? Thought I were gonna die.
Bex MilnesHOST
32:40
[chuckles]
Jess LearmonthHOST
32:42
'Cause the weather turned and it, we, it, it were thick fog, and we got lost basically, and I were like, "John, this is awful." And we didn't see anyone.
AlexHOST
8:11
This is why it's so important.
AlexHOST
8:13
This is why the walk that actually matters isn't the occasional hike up Scarfell Pike or Ben Nevis or whatever.
AlexHOST
8:20
It is the gentle 10 minutes after your biggest meal when the sugar is flooding in and your muscles are right there to soak it all up.
AlexHOST
8:30
So you're not really walking the meal off.
Imo BoddyGUEST
49:12
Um-
Ty TemelHOST
49:12
What, what about Scafell Pike? I remember that to be so, like- Under your foot, not very, um, stable.
Imo BoddyGUEST
49:21
Yeah, it's-
Ty TemelHOST
49:21
It's like-
Nicola ForwoodHOST
51:04
And for Poppy, it completed her set.
Nicola ForwoodHOST
51:06
So she's now done, she did Ben Nevis at eight, Scarfell Pike at 10.
Nicola ForwoodHOST
51:11
And then this year she's done Sleeve Donnard and Snowden at 13.
Nicola ForwoodHOST
51:15
So that was a great achievement for her.
