Say Hello, Wave Goodbye

However, I'm not here to talk about this classic.

It was the year after, in 1982, when Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, which was co-written by soft-sell duo Mark Orman and Dave Ball, came to fruition.

It is storytelling at its finest.

It's the tale of a guilt-ridden man breaking up with his girlfriend.

Oof! It's hide behind your pillow stuffer waiting for the next put down.

In 1998 the album White Ladder was released by another superb lyricist David Gray and sold over 7 million copies worldwide.

Huge chart hits such as This Year's Love, Sail Away and Babylon were included, but the last track was his cover of Say Hello, Wave Goodbye.

Instead of the keyboards and the synthesizers, Gray strips the song right back and he takes a simple acoustic guitar and slows the vocals down considerably.
