Because she didn't have the guts to take on the Education Department and the union and then, you know, basically the bureaucracy generally.

The Minsk government is reviewing the New South Wales Surrogacy Act.

While a New South Wales parliamentary inquiry chaired by the National's Sarah Mitchell with the Greens' Amanda Conn as deputy chair has also been examining assisted reproduction and surrogacy.

And Sydney independent Alex Greenwich, one of the architects of the same-sex marriage debate, has already pushed changes dealing with children born through overseas commercial surrogacy.

Now, what's all this got to do with you? Well, establishing a rental market in women's wombs and a cash market in babies is the unfinished business of the same-sex marriage debate.

Quite the opposite, actually.

As you know, I've been a staunch supporter of the men and women of the New South Wales Police Force, and the Commissioner Mal Lanyon invited me along to the Hills District to meet some of the troops.

They're headed up by Acting Assistant Commissioner Naomi Moore, and I got to speak to some of the General Judy's coppers, the detectives, three cadets, and an impressive bloke who's the youth officer working with the local schools and some of the young offenders in the area.

And it was fascinating from my point of view to see what happens behind the scenes.
