In this series, we use the newspapers.com archives to play our favorite game in which we give each other random words, this time Halloween-related words, and see what kind of obscure, bizarre, spooky, stupid, and funny stories we can dig up from the last 200 years.

So yeah, if anyone needs like a really, really good show that's kind of it's a really dark comedy it's got some i think i talked about on the show intense themes but man oh man it's good uh that's furious on hulu and then a little podcast wreck for you all out there in the listening uh as that that counts for me as listening as much as music there's a show called what to carry what to burn and it is uh a woman named blair braverman who used to be a like a dog sledder up in alaska and she's just awesome narrator storyteller and it's it's just like survival stories that she tells and it's just a great like you can you can throw it on for a drive if you're working on something it's just like she just tells very good survival stories from all over and the first two episodes that she does is like a two-parter about this Arctic expedition and she does it with Sarah Marshall from you're wrong about sort of in the style of that show it's just delightful so yeah what to carry what to burn I will promote that show.

And so there were certain writers that would come through, like Sarah Marshall, who has that I think she's most known for people her podcast you're wrong about but she was working on this long form piece about true crime at the time and just like a bunch of people came through that poet Paul Tran was there it's like so I was like interacting with writers in a way that I just didn't think was possible in Vegas it's like in New York that would happen all the time but here I was like oh people are being brought out here for stuff And so as the believer was trying to establish its identity within Vegas, I just naturally ran into a bunch of different writers and editors and like the local magazines here were trying to really get more of like a literary thing going on.

And so I started writing like these little tiny like dispatches for like the local magazines.
