one of these women was sarah logan fisher she was forced to remain in philadelphia as the british approach drove the city into chaos houses and stores were ransacked as patriot families fled as supply shortages took hold after the british arrived she could only just stand there and watch as goods were stolen and animals butchered when the british eventually abandoned the city the recapture by the continental army was just as swift and her fate became even less certain now beyond just those who already had connections driving them to be loyal to britain the british army was quick to bring anyone into their ranks with bribes and favors the most visible and most well known of these converts was benedict arnold a once loyal officer in the american army who was pivotal in the victory at saratoga and recapture of philadelphia Now, after sustaining injuries at Saratoga, Arnold was pushed away from the battlefield, hence his recapture of Philadelphia, and ultimately passed over for a promotion.

With his pride damaged and growing debts that needed to be paid, Arnold flipped on his general and began working as a spy for the British.

He would remain in British service throughout the war and live the rest of his life in exile.
