But for most people who think of seeing a rep show, this old building is probably what comes to mind.

Anna GloverGUEST
It's downtown Newhaven, we've got the art gallery on the opposite side of the road to us, just along from us is Atticus where people get their coffees before they come into the space.

Anna GloverGUEST
But you definitely get a sense that things change when you hit the theatre because it's got the brick cobbled path before these concrete steps, before the doors.

Anna GloverGUEST
And so you get a sense that something is changing when you step across the threshold here into this space.

Anna GloverGUEST
And normally when you come in here to see a show, someone is greeting you at the very top.

It's a beautiful theater brimming with history, but like the original university theater a few blocks away, that history comes with quirks.

I don't do sort of security, although that is a part of what I do, and I, I'm not sort of the technical expert that walks around with a clipboard and says, "Oh, you haven't tied that knot correctly," or, "You haven't wired that dimmer rack correctly." What I think my job is to do is create the environment where we can take creative risks.

Anna GloverGUEST
So I'm looking at the ecosystem, as it were, that surrounds that, the training, the policies, the procedures.

Anna GloverGUEST
I'm the one that gets to look at the ideas for the shows, and I make sure that the experts are the ones talking to each other.

Anna GloverGUEST
It's a rare job in this country, and so there's actually a group of us that call ourselves the Safety Unicorns because what we do is quite rare.

Anna GloverGUEST
So yeah, I guess what my job is to do is to make sure that nothing dramatic happens, which is ironic because we're in a theater.

John ReedGUEST
Most of those practices have gone away through us recognizing what the risk was and why we were taking risks.
