Sara Baume

Tulca is a literary journal based in Dublin, where we encourage writers to test the limits of nonfiction through essays, memoir, and the things that fall in between.

On today's episode, we have a lovely conversation for you with Sara Baume about her essay, Handkerchiefs, published in Issue 11 of Tulca.

It's the second time we've published Sarah.

I think we're big fans of her work.

Shall we, uh, roll on with Sarah's conversation?

Yes, let's go for it.

[intro music] Sara Baume is the author of five books, the most recent of which is Opening Night.

She has won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Award, the Rooney Prize, the Hennessy New Irish Writing Award, and an Irish Book Award, and nominated for many, many more.

You never doubted it once, did you? Not for a moment, Fletcher.

Irish Books season two takes on writers including Sara Baume, John Boyne, Jan Carson, and Orla Mackey.

They're not in this novel though, are they? I think Feeney avoids these diagnostic terms probably very deliberately.

Absolutely deliberately.
