Michael QuinnGUEST
60:49
And we had 750 people show up and we had a great, beautiful day in the park.
Michael QuinnGUEST
60:56
And it was, you know, just the glorious, you know, with the Catalina Mountains as the backdrop.
Michael QuinnGUEST
61:00
And we said our thank you.
Michael QuinnGUEST
61:03
We were done.

67:38
Mount what? The mountain outside Tucson that we went up.
speaker_0HOST
67:42
Oh, the Catalina Mountains? Mount Lemmon? Mount Lemmon, yes.
speaker_0HOST
67:46
Who was Lemmon? Must have been a cool guy.

67:50
I don't know,
Lindsay SchneblyHOST
23:51
We love Tucson stories.
Jethro Gilligan TothHOST

"My grandfather volunteered for years at Catalina State Park, right at the base of the Catalina Mountains." I know exactly where that is.
Jethro Gilligan TothHOST
24:01
Uh-
Lindsay SchneblyHOST
24:02
As do I. That's-
Robyn LeanoHOST
34:30
I go back through the back way on 79 through Florence.
Robyn LeanoHOST
34:34
And then I get into the Oro Valley because I get to see the Catalina Mountains just rise up.
Robyn LeanoHOST
34:39
It is very nice.
Robyn LeanoHOST
34:40
If you ever get a chance to do that, I highly recommend if you ever travel down to Arizona.
Christian PeranziGUEST
25:20
I think it's 86, 60 is what they say, but it's, that's where I haven't been, but everything that I researched about it is that, is that that peak is really boring and flat and you just kind of, like walk over the top and there's no beautiful views or anything, but there is an area really close by that you can see all of Tucson from.
Christian PeranziGUEST
25:42
Then we drop down from there into Reddington Pass and then climb up into the Santa Catalina Mountains, which is where Mount Lemmon is.
Christian PeranziGUEST
25:51
Mount Lemmon is, you know, Tucson's not known for trail racing, but it is known for road cycling.
Christian PeranziGUEST
25:57
And Tour de France teams come to ride Mount Lemmon

Initially, the Biosphere 2 project received primarily positive media coverage in most of the major outlets, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine, Newsweek, and all of the major television networks.
Kathy KenzoraHOST
8:12
An article in Discover Magazine said Biosphere 2 was, quote, "the most exciting venture to be undertaken in the US since President Kennedy launched us toward the moon." Even reputable scientists seemed excited about the experiment set to take place in the foothills of Santa Catalina Mountain, but all of that would change shortly before the eight Biospherians were locked inside the glass structure they would call home for 730 days.
Kathy KenzoraHOST
8:42
Before we talk about what happened inside the air-locked Biosphere 2, I want to tell you a bit about what went into creating it.
Kathy KenzoraHOST
8:50
The complex itself is quite a marvel.

17 MINS LATER

Mark NelsonGUEST
26:12
We learned a lot about how to deal with the media.
Mark NelsonGUEST
26:15
I really wish we had the internet, 'cause then we could have spoken, you know, m- more directly to [laughs] people around the world.
Kathy KenzoraHOST
26:23
The controversy didn't stop tourists from making the trip to the foothills of Santa Catalina Mountain to witness history in the making.
Kathy KenzoraHOST
26:31
500,000 people visited Biosphere 2, making it the second most popular attraction in Arizona after the Grand Canyon.
RoyHOST

And today, just before the net, I saw an article that said it was a, you know, estimated to be 80 centimeters across, or 2.6 feet, which means it's a boulder that none of us are, you know, man enough to pick up, but, you know, it's not an extension of an asteroid either.
RoyHOST
5:53
Impacted near Australia at the 9.07 Pacific Daylight Time, the Mount Lemmon Observatory in Arizona's Santa Catalina Mountains that's where it was actually first discovered and it was the first ancient asteroid to be detected prior to the impact what's an ancient asteroid? well an ancient asteroid has an orbit very close to Earth's orbit but it's slightly closer to the sun than the Earth's orbit.
RoyHOST
6:37
An Apollo asteroid, on the other hand, orbits the Sun much farther

than the Earth's orbit.
CheriHOST

So they compiled basically UFO sightings that they found were significant that the US Air Force themselves actually looked into and again all of these case files are available to view so i picked some really interesting ones out so in tucson which is the furthest i think it's the furthest south city in arizona which is where it kind of made it to about sort of like nine o'clock at night um so the 9th of may 1942 Sorry, 1949 at 2.30 p.m., so broad daylight, a U.S. Air Force sergeant who was trained as a technical observer and a flight engineer, so he knows his planes, he saw two perfectly round, flat, silver-reflective objects that he deemed to be about 10,000 feet in the air and the size of bathtubs.
CheriHOST
28:26
They moved abruptly left and right, so they were like... kind of like flitting around in the sky, really, which is not something that a normal aircraft is capable of doing, before they abruptly disappeared over the Catalina Mountains.
CheriHOST
28:42
They left no vapour trails, they had no sound, and he estimated that they were travelling around 1,000 miles per hour.
GemmaHOST
28:50
Wow.
Leah OwensHOST
14:13
Well, apparently whoever was behind the wheel was either very skilled or very lucky because they got away.
Leah OwensHOST
14:18
And Paul's truck wasn't seen again until the following day when, according to reporting for multiple sources, including NBC News, it was found in a remote section of the Santa Catalina Mountains in Pima County's Reddington Pass area, east of Tucson.
Leah OwensHOST
14:33
Allegedly, the first people to notice the truck, which had been crashed and subsequently abandoned on a steep hill, were ranchers.
Scott OwensHOST
14:41
Obviously concerning.
