Sankt Radegund

He was an Austrian farmer living in a really, really small town very close to the German border.

And while Austria was voting, democratic process, on whether they wanted to allow the Anschluss, which was the Nazi occupation of Austria, he was the only person in his town who voted no, the only person in Sankt Radegund, which was his small town, who voted no to that.

And actually, they ended up wiping his vote from the record.

They said that it was a unanimous vote in support of the Nazi occupation.

He was subsequently imprisoned, and he was martyred by beheading for going against the grain.

In the movie about his life, it's called A Hidden Life, it was made in 2019, and it's a great movie.

Something I found particularly interesting was how ma- at many points in his process, I believe the mayor of Sankt Radegund said it to him, one of the people in the tribunal, in the army tribunal when they were trying him for treason of going against Hitler, and I feel I think a few other folks would say to him essentially, "What do you think you're going to change by conscientiously objecting to serving in the army? You're not actually going to change the tide of the war.

You are a nobody farmer in a nobody town with nobody who is listening to you, as evidenced by literally only your wife supporting you.
