Sanity

Life was awful.

As things are, in this curious establishment, I am nothing at all.

The very sane precepts of the founders of religions are only made infectious by means of enthusiasms which to a sane man must appear deplorable.

It is humiliating to find how impotent unadulterated sanity is.

Sanity, for example, informs us that the only way in which we can preserve civilisation is by behaving decently and intelligently.

Like, to miss finals footy, to have Nathan Cleary out of the finals for that is insane to me.

Restore me to sanity is a condition of the mind, a wholeness of a mind, wellness of a mind, a mind that isn't selfish, a mind that isn't locked tight with self, a mind that isn't full of me, period.

Sanity and soundness of mind is a wholeness of mind, something I have no way of knowing and no way of doing.

But step three, or step two allows me to get ready or to be qualified to go into the next step in principle.

So in principle, I'm building a character now.

Well, the reason it's on like that right there is because the power of self is always being used.

And yet, though, we just got through talking about step two, about believing in a power greater than self that will do something I can't do, restore me to sanity.

Sanity is no more than soundness, wholeness of mind.

It's a very funny one, actually.
