Sangre de Cristo Mountains

A little bit of rain out by Golden Morrison, out by Red Rocks, just a little pitter patter.

Not too much doing there, but there is a lot doing it in the San Juans and the Sangre de Cristos where we're seeing some steadier rain right now.

Next few hours we'll see that rain mostly in southern Colorado.

Few showers and storms, especially northern Colorado tonight and then in Denver wasn't actually going to like really really rain.

Depending on location, one can see the lights of Pecos and Santa Fe, as well as cabin lights at night.

The quadrant is full of landmarks, including the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the downward slopes of the Pecos Valley.

Mel parked his 2001 Jeep Cherokee beside his friends' vehicles and approached the base camp near Forest Road.

After discussing their plans, Mel's two friends went into the backcountry around 4:30 PM to hunt elk.

It might've been right before I started it because I bartended and then I drove out to New Mexico to build the earth ships.

And while I was out there, At the Sangre de Cristos Mountains, I had an epiphany that I'm going to start a media site, and that's where the new American media came from, and then I came back.

First words out of my mouth, I completely disagree with you on the Second Amendment, but I appreciate the fact that you're having a conversation on your show every night.

And he was kind of taken aback by that, and he was like, Well, thank you very much.

And there were a couple of horse racing places in New Mexico.

So when they would load up me and my brother to go camping or spend the time in the Sangre de Cristos, they would take time to go to some of these horse races, and I would go with them.

And as I got older, yeah, I wanted to place a bet.

So it's not that I'm against wagering.

It's out on the Tano Corridor.

So that's wrapped in, you know, Jemez Mountain views and looking back with really just extraordinary Sangre ski mountain views also.

Looking to the north, just all the way to Colorado, you can see Mount San Antonio in Colorado.

Just big, huge open skies.

Oh, you know, this question is like, You're in Colorado, and you're looking at these gorgeous mountains.

There's one time my family was in Colorado, and we were at the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and at sunset, they just light up bright red.

And, you know, you're just like mind blown.

And I do think we can look at parts of the mountain peaks and we look over there and we're like, I love looking at this right now.

In southern Colorado, the great sand dunes rise above the San Luis Valley in the shadow of the towering Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Two seasonal streams flow out of the mountains, catch sand from the mountain-facing side of the dunes, and carry it around.

Eventually, it blows back into the dunes, and in this way they repair themselves.

Where were you? I was working at a pretty nondescript job, but it was weird because I was a delivery driver, so I'd have to travel from Albuquerque to Taos, Santa Fe, Española.

So I was disconnected.

I got into work and I saw the first plane hit.

And she said, you know, I think what would be really good for you is go live in the cave for a few days.

So the cave, and she has a cave on a property that Upaya owns 50 or 75 miles north of Santa Fe in the middle of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at the end of a 25 mile dirt road.

And her monks have carved out a hillside, a south-facing hillside, and built a little cell that has a single short bed, shorter than me, and a little stove, and no running water, no power.

And she thought that's where I needed to go.

Yeah.

I mean, the Sangre really, it's like, you're really looking at like the Sangre de Cristos, which I would say are roughly split in half between Colorado and New Mexico.

And.

You know, I think there's also a little bit about like the geology of the Sangres that I won't kind of get into the weeds of that.

That sounds pretty cool to me.

You know, another area that I think is relatively underrated and probably partially because of all these land ownership issues I talked about is the Tusas Mountains.

So the Sangre de Cristos are kind of on the east side of the Rockies.

Think like Taos, Santa Fe, Angelfire Mountains.
