And, uh, the, the, the time at the criminal bar when I was there at that time was w- undergoing great change because of the introduction of drugs.

And people that beforehand, uh, you know, Burglar Bill knew the rules, the police knew the rules, everybody knew the rules, we knew the rules.

And that was a very simple process.

Um, but n- now I began to find more and more that people I was sent to try and represent and to help, uh, in the criminal, through the criminal system, had no understanding or knowledge or, uh, experience, and couldn't...

They were, they were the first to say, "I have no idea why I did it." And I, I remember thinking, oh, and because of course I was being paid to give them criminal law advice, and they didn't have to listen, uh, uh, at all.
