A couple of other notable things in this guild arc, Edric, recall him, Edric with a K, not a C, he ends up having this random T-date with the Oracle of Time, remember the Oracle of Time, and the Oracle is like, hey man, don't worry, this new technology, quote-unquote new technology that Krohn invented, It's going to make you obsolete, but what you should do is go create artificial spice and break Merbella's monopoly so you don't have to rely on the sisterhood for all your spice.

I actually know even less about Sandworms.

Arrakis produces spice, the element which allows interstellar travel, and by giving it to House Atreides, the emperor has set the stage for war with big, bad, bald Baron Harkonnen, the previous tyrannical rulers of the desert world.

Duke Leto Atreides wants to do things differently, however, and wants to work with the Fremen, the local indigenous inhabitants of Arrakis, and he shows that he is an honorable ruler when he saves the crew of a spice crawler from being eaten by Shai-Hulud, the massive sand worms that populate the planet also.

The Atreides family doctor, however, betrays his house.

The Harkonnen attack and decimate House Atreides with the help from the Emperor's Sardaukar.
