Sanctification in Christianity

Consecration is sacrificial.

Sanctification is personal, like the spiritual hygiene.

So what I would say is that, like we explored in Genesis chapter 17, all of the males of Abraham were circumcised as a symbol of the covenant, an ark that they bore.

So all of them were Kadesh.

I would say that baptism is in many ways that for us that circumcision was in the past, that one of the reasons we're told to get baptized is to mark ourselves, publicly declare we are set aside for Christ.

But after we do that, we aren't suddenly snapped into a new form of existence where we are perfect.

Sanctification is the process of becoming like the Lord after we've been set aside for Him.

That process needs to happen, and it's not finished simply because we are set aside for God.

That is sand doctrine.

Sanctification is sound doctrine.

The act of God's grace whereby we are made holy.

I don't have to say much about this because last Sunday morning we had a beautiful message on sound doctrine of sanctification.

Justification deals with committed acts of sin.

Sanctification deals with the underlying condition that caused the acts of sin, the depraved carnal nature.

Many said it's not important.

Even back in 1906, they told Sister Crawford it's not important.

It's our Father which art in heaven, sanctified be.

You hear that word sanctified? Go look that up.

Sanctified be thy name.

Let thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done as in heaven, in earth also.

See, I'm doing this, I'm doing this, which I hope you're doing it with me.

I'm going there right now.

Sanctified.

So it is with sanctification.

This setting apart is not only, not only an act, that is, a given once and for all one-time act that happens at salvation.

Sanctification, which is separating us from sin and setting us apart unto God, also is a process that takes place in our life.

Now, I want us to look in, uh, 1 Thessalonians chapter 4.

Here's a very practical, a simple illustration of what we mean by the Holy Spirit sanctifying us in our daily life.

Then he begins a process of sanctifying us.

Sanctification means to set something or someone apart, put it in a unique place and make it special.

I've defined it like the dishes in your dining room.

They are set apart.
