Yet when the sea was there, the Indian tribes were there also.

Along the bases of the San Bernardino and San Jacinto ranges there are indications of cave dwelling, rock-built squares that doubtless were fortified camps, heaps of stone that might have been burial mounds.

Everywhere along the ancient shores and beaches you pick up pieces of pottery, broken ollas, stone pestles and mortars, axe heads, obsidian arrowheads, flint spear points, agate beads.

There is not the slightest doubt that the shores were inhabited.

We got ourselves out of the desert last weekend and had a really wonderful time up around 5,500 to 7,000 feet in the San Jacinto Mountains, which is the northernmost mountain range in the peninsular ranges.

It was a great time, and we woke up Monday morning, got in the car, and found out that the battery was dead.

And folks, you have not lived until you've gotten a jump in a little mountain town And then from there, driven to the nearest store that sells car batteries, which turns out to be 23 miles away and about 3,000 feet downhill on a switchback-y road, especially with the lights on the dashboard flashing on and off and the touchscreen flashing on and off.

As a result, David was not officially reported missing until June 30th, 12 weeks after he'd last been seen.

A massive search was launched in Whitewater Preserve, an area just north of the San Jacinto Mountains, which would have been en route to David's next scheduled stop.

Yet, despite the use of helicopters, dogs, and ATVs, search and rescue team came up short.

With no evidence of foul play, there has been little in the way of official investigation since then.

He hiked through snowy mountains and desert heat right from the start.

Trevor met two other hikers along the way and they continued the hike together.

On March 26th, Trevor and his new friends left a cafe for the long, steep and dangerous climb into the San Jacinto Mountains.

Trevor texted his father saying they hit 6,100 feet and were headed back into snow.

In 1980, Reinhold Messner made the first solo ascent of Mount Everest and, along with Peter Habeler, the first ascent of Everest without supplemental oxygen.

Next, we have John Sturkey, who went missing from the San Jacinto Mountains in 2019.

John Sturkey, a 55-year-old electrician, went on a solo adventure on January 4th, 2019, without informing anyone of his intentions.

After a month, it was discovered through his phone records that he had traveled to the San Jacinto Mountains, which was approximately 90 miles northeast of his home.

Authorities traced this information to a distressing 911 call.
