D

Maybe I should keep tabs on him a little bit more.
D
26:45DanHOST
If you're going 3:41, that's in, that's very close to Sam Short type of territory.

18:57Taren FredemaHOST
There are some names that I think I could maybe throw in there for com- for, like, I'm surprised there's no Sam Short mention, a little bit.
T
19:08Taren FredemaHOST
But again-
C

I can't even think about Kornev.

And I mean, when you're dealing with, like, 70 Australian coffee snobs, and everyone's in there every day, um, no, he did a very good job, so...
L
48:51Lani PallisterGUEST
And I think he's good friends now with Sam, um, Williamson and Stubbly Cook, 'cause they all talk about, like, the roasting and how to do all those.
L
48:59Lani PallisterGUEST
I'm not fr- I'm not well-versed on that.
L
49:01Lani PallisterGUEST
But yeah, he was cool.
C
49:11Coleman HodgesHOST
I didn't know Will- does Williamson also, like, roast his own beans?
L
49:15Lani PallisterGUEST
Oh, no.
L
49:17Lani PallisterGUEST
But he, I think he was the one ordering the beans into America at Pan Pacs for Zach and Sam this year.
C
49:23Coleman HodgesHOST
Oh, okay.

Be...
T
10:56Taren FredemaHOST
At the end of the day, I, I think there is too much of a gap between him and somebody like Sam Short, and he's even, and he even mentioned that when he expresses interest.
C
11:06Coleman HodgesHOST
Mm.
T
11:06Taren FredemaHOST
Like, Sam Short is still the king of that.
T
11:08Taren FredemaHOST
He's still-

Uh, the...
E
3:39Elvis BurrowsHOST
I would say second would be maybe Sam Short.
E
3:44Elvis BurrowsHOST
No, no, no.
E
3:45Elvis BurrowsHOST
Would be Lanny Palaster beating Katie Ledecky in the 800.
E
3:50Elvis BurrowsHOST
And third, I think would be Sam Short dominating in the distance events.
E
3:57Elvis BurrowsHOST
I think those are the top-

Yeah, Sam Short, period.

The FULL European Champs 2026 Review
S
23:16ScottHOST
Mm.
D
23:16DanHOST
The four free, I said way too much on the live stream about how special Sam Short is at a four free, and we just need to chill with a three forty three.
D
23:25DanHOST
They were good swims.
D
23:26DanHOST
They were good swims.
26 MINS LATER
D
48:58DanHOST
Yeah.
D
48:58DanHOST
Yeah.
S
48:58ScottHOST
Um, if anyone could get the 800 free world record, it's him or Sam Short, in my opinion-
D
49:04DanHOST
Yep
How Fast Were Euros and Pan Pacs?
S
23:09speaker_0HOST
And I'm sure she was very tired.
S
23:11speaker_0HOST
Something that also probably flew under the radar for Douglas was the fact that she did clock a 24-99 personal best in the 51. butterfly I believe that was during prelims and she's like 25 oh something in the final placing second behind Gretchen Walsh which is why it would have kind of flown under the radar a little bit but it's worth noting that that makes her just the third swimmer to ever break 25 seconds for the longest time it was only Sostrom Gretchen Walsh has joined the club and now Kate Douglas has entered the club but when it's right next to Gretchen Walsh going so fast it's a little easier to forget that one Another swimmer that had just a phenomenal meet was Sam Short.
S
23:50speaker_0HOST
Now he wasn't breaking world records, but he was breaking records.
S
23:54speaker_0HOST
In the 400 freestyle, he clocked a new personal best of 340.52. Not only is that a personal best, not only was it a very fast swim and strong showing out of him, It also breaks Ian Thorpe's meat record, which is a massive accomplishment, especially in a 400 freestyle.
6 MINS LATER
S
30:22speaker_0HOST
Luke Hobson got his hand on the wall first with a 143.85, only a little bit off of his personal best, but also a very quick swim and under 144.
S
30:34speaker_0HOST
I believe he also broke an Ian Thorpe meet record.
S
30:36speaker_0HOST
Like we talked about with Sam Short, that is incredibly impressive.
S
30:40speaker_0HOST
The huge one, though, is the fact that behind him, just 11 100ths away, was Gabriel Jett in a 143.96. That is a huge personal best for him.
Sam Short Reflects on Dominant Season & Historic Swims, Looks Toward Distance World Records
C
0:01Coleman HodgesHOST
I'm today's host, Coleman Hodges, and joining us today, he swept the distance freestyle events at the Commonwealth Games this summer, winning the 400, 800, and 1500, but he was not done there.
C
0:16Coleman HodgesHOST
Then he went to the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California, and not only swept the distance podium there, winning the 4, 8 and 15 once again, but in the 400 he went a 340.5, breaking Ian Thorpe's legendary Pan Pacific Championships record from 1999, a record that was older than this athlete, as well as swimming a 1433.9 in the 1500 free, breaking Grant Hackett's legendary Australian record from 2001, another record that is older than today's guest, Sam Short.
C
0:59Coleman HodgesHOST
[singing] I'm a simple man.
C
1:03Coleman HodgesHOST
Don't wanna complicate ya.
13 MINS LATER
S
14:16Sam ShortGUEST
I was really focusing on s- trying to stay locked in for Pan Pacs, you know.
S
14:19Sam ShortGUEST
It's really easy to switch off and think the job's done, but I really tried to recover as best I could.
S
14:24Sam ShortGUEST
Um, old Sam probably would've just switched off and gone, "Yeah, yeah, I've, I've, I've ticked the box.
S
14:29Sam ShortGUEST
Let's just go to Pan Pacs and have a good time." But I was really heavily motivated.
