They had a heavy weapons, reinforced heavy weapons battalion of NVA.

Now, at the time, it was not admitted that there were that many North Vietnamese fighters in South Vietnam.

That was not politically correct to acknowledge that fact.

So it wasn't until deep into the night that we discovered that they were NVA, had NVA uniforms on.
