Sam Wheat

Did you cry? I was just explaining how it's weird because if you don't know your parent, but then you find out your parent dies, it's a very weird thing.

Yeah, it's like Sam Wheat.

Say it.

Sam

Wheat.

It's like Sam Wheat, but also it's like, I don't know you, so I'm not sad about not knowing you.

But I guess I have some kind of awareness that this will – this happened and it will never – I will never know you.

Kind of weird.

[laughs]

Sam Wheat.

Yeah.

Wow

... mainly because he had to be an observer to the action and not a participant.

[laughs]

Yeah.

So you're Sam Wheat.

[laughs]

It was incredibly difficult.

Let's look at the search for Sam Wheat.

The list of people who passed on this role reads like a who's who of 1990s Hollywood royalty.

Leading men were defined by their ability to shoot a gun, throw a punch, and physically control their environment.

Right.

But the character of Sam Wheat is entirely stripped of that agency.

For the vast majority of the runtime, he is a ghost.

1990.

Banker Sam Wheat and his girlfriend Molly Jensen moved into a Tribeca loft with the help of Sam's best friend and coworker.

[horn blaring] Andrew Jubin.

Ghost.
