So that was kind of like, we were kind of like, we could do this till, it's funny, I remember, I think it was August 16th was the gold medal game.

I'm writing this down, five offices.

It's easy to follow successful athletes, whether it be Michael Jordan or Sam Perkins or, God bless, rest in peace, Pearl Washington, the great players that came from our respective programs.

But quite often, people like you go under the radar and you can make a case you're one of the most successful athletes Players in Syracuse basketball history just didn't do it on the basketball court.

And congratulations to you for using basketball and not letting it

We had a great player named Al Wood and Jimmy Black from New York City.

Yeah.

And then Sam and I, Sam Perkins from Brooklyn, but played at Shaker High School up in Albany.

Yeah.

And I've never seen a guy have a flatter shot in my life.

Sam Perkins.

Well, Sam Perkins made them.

Yeah.

But did it really rattle that hard? If the goal is 10 foot, Sam Perkins' shot was 10 foot 8.

It was literally a line drive.

Okay.

Let's talk about some of the star players there.

Sam Perkins was there, Mark Aguirre, Derek Harper, Rolando Blackman, Brad Davis, Jay Vincent.

We had a squad that was just loaded, and this guy was trying to get the most out of all of us.

We couldn't quite get past the Showtime Lakers, Magic and Kareem and that crew, but we gave them a battle.

... that, uh, people like, like Sam Perkins made a living just shooting-

But I, I miss some smooth Sam Perkins in my life.

I tell you that much.

My game was more Clifford Robinson, Sam Perkins, just w- a weird game.

I, I've got a bunch of weird releases, weird floaters, but also my, my game, my pickup game was, was more defensively focused.

... it's hard to measure it.

But I just know when I think about Five Slamma Jamma, when I think about Georgetown in those years, when I think about North Carolina with Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins, and James Worthy-

... oh, and Kenny Smith too, I mean, it's hard for me to reckon with.

Michael Jordan, for example, Larry Brown, Billy Cunningham, Phil Ford, Kenny Smith, James Worthy, Brad Daugherty, Jerry Stackhouse, Charlie Scott, Vince Carter, Sam Perkins.

Dean Smith was smart, shrewd, and masterful, and he was so beloved at North Carolina that they built a gym and they named it after him.
