What was, yeah, can you walk me through what the, even just the setup for that was like?
32:32
Yeah, well, I'll describe it and then we can talk about the reasons and why's.
32:37
So the work is just features a golden drum kit, which is a normal drum kit painted gold.
32:48
sitting at the bottom of a waterfall.
32:50
Uh, so it's just like a blanket with a ton of water, just constantly falling on it.
32:58
Um, uh, so that, you know, that's the practical element.
33:02
It was really hard to do because it was a lot of water and it was very forceful and they kept on falling over and it took a long time to like get the drums into the right place.

Which I'll tell you
James Stout

73:57
Yeah.
73:57
And this list contained the names of the cities and the expected or projected occupancy of each of these facilities.
74:07
And so I live here in Atlanta, Georgia, and there were two cities on that list with warehouses contemplated.
74:19
One is located in the city of Flowery Branch, where the warehouse there is intended to detain up to 1,500 people, and the other is in the city of Social Circle, Georgia, where ICE intends to use a warehouse that is over one million square feet-

84:02
Yeah
84:02
... you know, a, an, an employment opportunity.
84:04
A lot of people said, like, "Hey, I mean, I don't necessarily want a prison in, in my backyard, but if it's bringing jobs, then, you know, that's what this community needs." That's something that I think makes Social Circle distinct from the previous shutdown campaigns I've worked on in Irwin County and in Folkston, is that this isn't really an area that is starved for employment or starved for, you know, economic support.
84:32
Like, these people are doing okay.
79:51
Oh, yeah, I bet.
79:53
And, you know, but in addition to the property value stuff, it's also, you know, the strain that this would impose on their small community.
80:01
I mean, you know, a number of the people who live there might be of, you know, well-to-do means, but, you know, their city police department employs a total of 14 officers and they have, two on duty at any given time.
80:16
They have a fire department of comparably small size.
80:21
And they have water and sewer infrastructure that was built to accommodate about as many people as live there now, between 4,000 and 5,000 people.
80:35
And it's that impact that is also really maddening and activating and agitating to people.
80:42
those arguments are not new to us who have organized in South Georgia and also very red areas, a lot more rural and a lot less wealthy.
84:44
So how are people opposing this?
6:21
Can you explain a little bit about how that campaign got started and then the nuts and bolts of how this is being opposed?
6:28
Yeah, so before I get into that, I think providing some context on who the social circle community is would be instructive.
6:38
So it's a pretty small, it's a very small city.
6:42
It's got a population of about 5,000 people.
6:47
Overwhelmingly Republican, overwhelmingly white, and pretty wealthy.
6:53
Okay.
6:54
And it's about an hour drive outside of Atlanta.
11:57
Oh, yeah, I bet.
