Salvador Sánchez

The, the-

Yeah, Sanchez-

Both of the-

People who are wishing stupid-

Out of 44 wins, 42 victories by knockout, International Boxing Hall of Fame member, one of the greatest junior featherweights of all time.

And a lot of people credit his fight with Salvador Sanchez for really sparking the greatest rivalry in all of boxing, Mexico versus Puerto Rico.

What a fight.

But a rest in peace of

I, I, I think we're talking about the greatest 122-pounder.

I mean, when he lost he moved up to 126, and look at, look at who he lost to, the great Azumah Nelson and the great Salvador Sanchez.

But at 122, he was the greatest, Mannix.

I mean, all respects to Inoue and Barrera and Morales, I mean, these are my favorite fighters.

...

in a smaller weight class.

And you mentioned it, moved up and, uh, fought Salvador Sanchez for the featherweight title in 1981.

Eventually went on to become a three-division world champion, winning a super featherweight belt in 1985.

So my next two.

So this isn't a legendary night, but it's Salvador Sanchez versus Azuma Nelson.

This is a very young Azuma Nelson as well.

This was at the MSG on July 21st, 1982.

Of course, Chavez is never gonna be topped.

Salvador Sanchez, Ruben Olivares, uh, Juan Manuel Marquez, Erik Morales.

I could go on and on with Mexican greats.

I think Canelo's on that list outside of Chavez.

I think I'd put him in the mix-

Outside of Salvador Sanchez too.

I think Sanchez is number three

...

And if you haven't sat down and watched 12 rounds of this, blistering fight and do go back and have a little sit down it's great fun to watch

so another one that we've got is a guy who we've covered for career profiles in the past month and we're talking about Salvador Sanchez His fight with Wilfredo Gomez is an absolute excellent fight.

And I remember going back to do the research for this and looking at that fight with Gomez and looking how good of a fight it was, given how both fighters were at that level where...

It was going to be and always going to be an excellent technical fight.

And it was absolutely brilliant.

Salvador Sanchez defeated Wilfredo Gomez by TKO in round 8 of 15.

And it was on August 21st in 1981 at Caesars Palace, the sports pavilion in Las Vegas.

The WBC world featherweight title was on the line.
