Salmon River

And, you know, you work in construction all the time and this and that.

I would actually go up to the Salmon River in New York and fish for, you know, lake run rainbows, winter steelhead, whatever you want to call them.

And I'd go out there and spend a good chunk of my time off, you know, fishing and ended up befriending a few guides.

And they're like, dude, you should be a guide.

And that was Sweetwater's ad.

I went to Sweetwater Guide School in Montana.

I was doing a little bit of guiding before that, just in upstate New York on the Salmon River.

And then I went to Sweetwater, took off and got a job in Alaska working for Sweetwater.

Man.

So when our lives are a little less chaotic, would you fight the crowd in Salmon River for those September chromers?

Well, this has been a topic with me and Dave actually lately.

It's this tailwater-

You've gotta go fish that stretch.

Yeah.

So that's named after the Douglaston, which is the bottom section of the Salmon River.

Okay.

I bought a new drift boat last year, a new hide, much lighter and easy manager.

You got a chance to go out on a little local pond here in Vermont with me and started off my spring, took the drift boat out to the Salmon River, tail end of March, March 20th, 22nd, still a little snow on the ground out there when we did.

And then the spring rains came.

And the Salmon River, I think on the 5th of April, went to 7,500 CFS.

And anybody that knows the Salmon River, the term surfs up was no exaggeration.

It's flooding conditions.

And virtually, the river is a tailwater fishery.

And for those of you that know anything about river systems, that means it's controlled by a dam.

Then you got the Genesee River, the Canada Way River.

You know, then you go up the Pulaski to the Salmon River, and then you can fish salmon, you can fish tro- you can fish trout, you can fish steelhead.

You know, then you...

There's just, there's so much here in western New York for different varieties and species of fish that you can fish.

Could be.

No, why I'm really calling, I used to go up to upstate New York in the summer, and there was the Salmon River up there.

and the salmon and the steelhead move out in the spring, and the river fills up with trout and big smallmouth bass.

Oh, wow.

Jason texted yesterday, steelhead fever bit him.

So I think we're gonna try and book a room for Salmon River.

I don't know if we're gonna get a fall fishing trip in.

We've got road trips in September, road trip in October.

It's like the crows have gone on a vacation.

looks like we're going steelhead fishing in november second week hotel rooms all booked putting some old pepperoni out for the crows keep that stem stem and i have sent meeting requests out to friends and clients so if you are on that list you know who you are by now and we're going to plan on swinging for steelhead Second week of November over Veterans Day.
