1:37
What have you achieved? What have the unions achieved?
1:40
Well...
1:42
We knew that our union movement and workers' rights in Australia was in serious trouble 15 years ago, a bit longer.
1:52
We had a government that came along and took away a lot of them.
1:55
We tried to rebuild them.
1:57
but we didn't get back what we had before.
2:00
And it became pretty apparent that unless we made changes that workers in Australia were going to go backwards fairly quickly.
4:49
Can we put that period behind us? One union in particular cleaned up its act.
13:20
Did the extent of this criminal behaviour only become clear to you as more evidence came out?
13:27
Oh, 2019, absolutely not.
13:30
You know, at the time, I thought this was a personal issue and it was about domestic violence and it was about...
13:37
That is violence to Sitka's wife.
13:39
Yeah, which he pleaded guilty to, so that.
13:43
And I thought it was just about his individual behaviours.
13:48
And perhaps it was back then.
16:43
But just coming back to the CFMEU, do you support and welcome the Royal Commission that the state government has now announced and should it have been announced earlier? Well, they've announced it
0:33
So before we begin, how do you know if you are eligible for these increases?
0:39
Well, it means if you're on an award, so you get paid exactly according to the award.
0:44
And if you don't know that, basically, you can look up the job you do on the internet and compare it to the pay rate.
0:51
It's on there.
0:52
So you should be able to work that out.
0:53
Or, of course, you can ask your boss.
0:55
But it's like you said, it's three million Aussies.
1:16
So what should we be doing to check if we receive
23:24
We, we get a lot of calls from people who say, "Well, you know, if my employees say they can work from home, maybe I could employ someone in the Philippines or Delhi or somewhere else to do that job instead." Are you worried about, like, clerical type roles disappearing overseas because of modern technology and working from home?
23:40
Uh, I do think that, um, you know, telework, like the ability to be able to do work remotely, uh, is an issue and it-Probably isn't work f-from home per se, although I do a-admit that that would feed into it, um, somewhat.
23:57
But just the fact that you can do work remotely and you can have meetings remotely, and technology has enabled that.
24:05
And whether we're working from home or not working from home, that's still an issue.
24:09
Like we've seen that happen obviously with call centers and a whole lot of other customer service jobs like for 20 years.
24:16
Um, and that's sort of become a bit of a bigger issue.
24:19
Uh, you know, Philippines or, or, uh, India or other places, you know, that's been, that's been an issue.
26:16
Is that right?
2:18
What, what do you say to a business operator like Ravi? Are his concerns valid?
2:23
I think he's putting too much sauce on, um, on his, uh, dishes.
2:27
Honestly, like he, in that long, um, uh, statement he made, he said prawns will be valued at gold, at the level of gold.
2:35
I think it's mass exaggeration.
2:38
And put-putting aside what I think about what he said about that, there's been studies into this.
2:43
When minimum wage workers get pay increases, they spend in their economy.
2:48
So who's walk, walking through the front of the restaurants? And that's disposable income.
5:46
Uh, what do you make of the latest Redbridge poll, which shows, uh, One Nation surpassing Labor as the most popular party in the country?
