Saint Maud

As always I will try and make my synopsis and review as spoiler free as possible so you can enjoy the films should you decide to watch them off the back of my recommendations.

So let's get started with our first film, Don't Listen.

When a family move into a large house in the countryside things aren't quite what they seem when their young son begins hearing strange voices in his head.

During the restoration of their new home, their son is tragically found dead in the swimming pool.

Paranormal investigators are eventually brought in, specialising in EVP and psychophony, essentially a supposed recording of voices from the spirit world.

Spooky old stuff.

So Don't Listen, or Voices as it's known as, is a Spanish supernatural horror film and the directorial debut of Angel Gomez Hernandez.

And it's a great first movie.

Oh, God.

That was like, that was like, that was like the beginning of COVID, I think.

It's not the case here.

St. M- St. Maud, even though I like the ending of it, but-

I remember watching Morfydd Clarke in St. Maude and thinking she did such a good job.

And then when she was announced as Galadriel, I thought, oh, that is so perfect.

That's great.

Uh, Funny Games from 1997 and Funny Games from 2007.

And then I'm doing Saint Maud for the '10s, and Cobweb for the 2020s.

You just listed some of the best movies ever.

That's the vibe I get

Saint Maud, that stuck with me for quite some time, so I'm interested in it.

I love it too, Courtney.

Um, and, uh, she made... a short called Room 55 that was probably her biggest short yet.

That's about 20 minutes.

And this kind of got her to be able to make Saint Maude.

And so I had it sent.

to me and it was before it had been released digitally in america oh wow i got a blu-ray of it before it had been released in america i didn't know because of how all of this worked right it was just a covid fuckery um but uh funny i remember seeing that and go oh yeah hell yeah this is this is good i'm excited to see what this filmmaker does next yeah um and she has said that um the kind of well-reviewed nature of saint maude kind of gave her a take a big swing and see what i could get away with doing yeah um and she wanted to make something that she describes as sweaty violent and fun
