Sagamore Hill.

This is a really noteworthy story, a profoundly touching story, of the Americanization of a young girl who, between babyhood and young womanhood, leaps over a space which in all cultural and humanizing essentials is far more important than the distance painfully traversed by her forefathers during the preceding thousand years.

When we tend to grow disheartened over some of the developments of our American civilization, it is well worthwhile seeing what this same civilization holds for starved and eager souls who have elsewhere been denied what here we hold to be, as a matter of course, rights free to all, although we do not, as we should do, make these rights accessible to all who are willing with resolute earnestness to strive for them.

Their games were his games, their joys those of his own heart.

He was ready to romp with them in the old barn at Sagamore Hill, play tickly at bedtime, join in their pillow fights, or play hide and seek with them either at Sagamore Hill or in the White House.

He was the same chosen and joyous companion always and everywhere.

Occasionally, he was disturbed for a moment about possible injury to his presidential dignity.

Describing a romp in the old barn at Sagamore Hill in the summer of 1903, he said in one of his letters that under the insistence of the children, he had joined in it because, quote, I had not the heart to refuse.

But really, it seems, to put it mildly, rather odd for a stout elderly president to be bouncing over haystacks in a wild effort to get to goal before an active midget of a competitor aged nine years.

However, it was really great fun.

And whenever any one of them beat me at any point, he felt and expressed simple and wholehearted delight, exactly as if it had been a triumph over a rival of his own age.

Um, he died January 6th, 1919 in his sleep at Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay, New York, and he was 60.

A blood clot got into his lungs.

In 1907, there was a spectacular UFO sighting over Sagamore Hill, one of the residences of President Teddy Roosevelt.

Now, Roosevelt at the time was working on a critically important speech, and in this speech, he would set out a strategic vision for the United States to develop a truly modern navy that would propel the United States into the position of a global superpower.

superpower.As a part of his vision, Roosevelt wanted to develop Pearl Harbor.

It could be said that were it not for Roosevelt realizing that vision for the future of the nation, that American intervention in the First World War might not have been as significant as it was.

So were the UFOs, were the strange lights over Sagamore Hill at the same time Theodore Roosevelt was coming up with this vision of a world consortium of nations, are they somehow linked?

Researchers find this incident compelling, not only because it is connected with a US president at a critical moment in history, but also because reports of UFO sightings were incredibly rare at the beginning of the 20th century.

After World War II however, this was no longer the case, and it happened under the watch of the country's 33rd president, Harry S. Truman.
