Safety Beach

We'd only been married perhaps a few months, so it was a long time ago, when I thought, foolishly in hindsight, it would be a good idea to take some of my wife's younger brothers out for a day of fishing out on the bay.

I collected this small timber dinghy that their dad had and three of the young brothers, all of them in primary school, and we went down to Safety Beach.

Now, I want to say, for the sake of adding gravitas to my story, that Safety Beach used to be called Shark Bay.

And there was a valid reason why it was called Shark Bay.

Perhaps sometime you can do a Google search to find that out.

And then back in the 1960s, the authorities get together and they say, really, if we want to make this part of Melbourne a popular tourist destination, we've got to do something.

And so they changed it to Safety Beach.

We didn't require a ramp for such a little toy vessel as the one we had, as we just were able to park on the road and carry it over the beach.

Me and my

wife have been going to the same caravan park in Safety Beach for over 30 years.

There are also families that have been doing that long too.

We had kids.
