Sacramento Raceway Park

At the beginning of this tale, I told you about the two varying approaches of leadership on the East and West Coast for the NHRA.

The blown alcohol door slammers group out West was doing their best to survive, and they had an advocate in Dave Smith, the operator of Sacramento Raceway, who booked the machines in regularly, much to the ire and consternation of the NHRA, who sanctioned his track and had no place in their rulebook for the cars.

Recognizing what Greg Exacalis had long seen on the East Coast, the tech department started the process in early nineteen eighty nine to actually carve out a rule set for these machines.

Lo and behold, on July first, nineteen eighty nine, they did exactly that, creating a set of rules as exhibition cars for, quote, stock-bodied supercharged alcohol vehicles, end quote.

Yeah.

So I first got it in, I think, January of 20 back at Sacramento Raceway.

We had street legal brackets every Wednesday night.

And so if you wanted to race, you pretty much needed a dedicated car for that because I was going to blow up my daily if I kept taking it out there.
