Sacrament

Yeah,

so he is an elder and a minister of Word and Sacrament, but he's also an apostle, and not all ministers of Word and Sacrament elders are apostles.

That's a unique

office.

Right after we read that, in Ephesians 5:32, we read that this union is a great mysterion in the Greek, or a mysterion, a great mystery.

But that is where we get the word sacrament from.

Because when St. Jerome, St. Jerome was translating this to his Vulgate, the Greek word mysterion would then get rendered into sacramentum in the Latin tradition in his Vulgate.

Why is that? I'll tell you why.

Because the marriage signifies our Lord's holy union with His church.

It really does, and it is a sacred sign.

And so that's why Jerome, St. Jerome knew the real meaning behind that Greek word, rendered it sacramentum.

Indeed, that is a wonderful path to holiness.

Because by the grace of God, you are disciples of Jesus.

The Holy Spirit, Word and Sacrament, has already made you disciples of Jesus.

Therefore, as disciples of Jesus, let us deny ourselves, carry our cross, and follow Jesus.

Amen.
