Cactus Pears

Hello everyone, I am Shaurya Thapa of Borrowing Tape and today I'm joined with director Rohan Kanabade who made the tender, emotional and wholesome Indian queer drama Cactus Pears or Sabarwanda as it's called in the film's original language, that is Marathi.

Now, Cactus Pears was a big hit in the film festival circuit.

It won at Sundance last year, picked up two awards at London's South by Southwest Festival, and it got a great response back home in India.

And now it's finally out in UK cinemas.

Welcome to the podcast, Rohan, and congratulations for the global rollout of Cactus Pears.

Thank you.

Thank you so much.

Here it starts with the tragedy and moves towards this friend, old friend coming into his life, this character's life and a bond develops between them and love blossoms, you know, because we usually associate this grieving period with sadness and I thought by depicting burgeoning love between these two characters, I can make a tender portrait, a sweet, warm portrait of this period.
