Saavik

And as always, Mary, spoilers ahead.

On the Genesis planet, Saavik discovers that David Marcus used an unstable substance called protomatter in the Genesis experiment, causing the planet to deteriorate rapidly.

The instability is also accelerating Spock's aging.

Meanwhile, Kirk and the Enterprise arrive at Genesis, where they're ambushed by Commander Kruge's Klingon Bird of Prey.

Although the Enterprise scores a direct hit, the Klingons return fire, disabling the ship.

Kirk and his crew are left defenseless.

Kruge reveals that he's holding Saavik, David, and Spock hostage on the planet.

When Kirk refuses to surrender, Kruge orders one of the prisoners executed.

Now n- next year we'll be doing it through the panel.

What if, uh, uh, uh, Saavik was, uh, this, Kirk's baby with the Romulan, uh, Sp- Spock's baby with the Romulan commander?

Kirk's baby? I was like-

What was, or who was, did, what if Saavik and Spock had a baby in Star Trek III? Was that Valeris? No, it couldn't have been.

[laughs]

Could not possibly have been.

There's hope, yeah.

There's hope.

And she's...

You know, Savak was kind of a bitch.

[laughs]

[laughs]

Following the battle with Khan, the badly damaged Enterprise returns to Earth.

Spock is dead, David Marcus and Lieutenant Saavik are studying the newly created Genesis planet, and Kirk is still grieving the loss of his closest friend.

Meanwhile, Klingon commander Kruge obtains secret information about Project Genesis.

Convinced that Genesis could be used as a devastating weapon, he sets course for the planet to seize its secrets for the Klingon Empire.

Kirk and Sarek review recordings of Spock's final moments and discover that Spock transferred his katra to Bones instead.

Kirk promises to recover Spock's body from Genesis and bring both Spock and Bones to planet Vulcan.

On Genesis, Saavik and David investigate Spock's burial torpedo.

They discover that the microorganisms on the casket have rapidly evolved and that Spock's body has mysteriously disappeared.

... scenes, and they...

Like, the elevator scene between Saavik and Kirk, if you watch that, it's basically just a one, a one-two shot-

Yeah

... of them, this is the whole scene

The, yeah, yeah.

And when they da- did it on television, they did close-up of Kirk, close-up of Saavik, close-up of Kirk, close-up of Saavik.

I wonder if they, if they do that, uh, as much 'cause back then, I know, like, part of the '70, going into the '80s especially, they did a ton of, "Okay, now we're doing the, the television."

Yeah, 'cause they didn't wanna do the pan and scan.

After Kirk's furious Khan!, the story pivots into its final chase.

Kirk, Saavik, Bones, and both Dr. Marcuses are still trapped in the Genesis cave deep inside Regula.

Even though they could survive for years on the abundant food supply, Kirk has one more trick up his maroon sleeve.

Spock's early report that Enterprise would need days of repairs was a trick meant to deceive Khan, who was monitoring Kirk's communications with the Enterprise.

...

Kirk is like, "Well, if you don't hear from us, uh, then just leave because there won't be an us left," or what have you.

And they take their tour of the Genesis cave, and of course, after, uh, some interactions with Kirstie Alley's character, Saavik, Kirk gets in touch with the Enterprise because of course-

Yeah
