Wallabies unbeaten after annoying draw | 8/9 Rugby Post-Mortem
G
15:43Geoff ParkesGUEST
Yeah, I think that distribution was good.
G
15:46Geoff ParkesGUEST
You know, connection with Lonergan and Acre Town.
G
15:51Geoff ParkesGUEST
Sue Lee was good.
G
15:54Geoff ParkesGUEST
I was surprised to see Donaldson taken off, so I'm not sure if that was injury-related or not.
G

55 or

something like that.
B
16:19Brett McKayHOST
But then evidently Gordon went off at the end, and I can only assume that was HIA because I don't know why you would make a tactical shift to take Carter Gordon off and put Kalani Thomas on and move Ryan Lonergan to 10th.
B
16:35Brett McKayHOST
So it has not been an HIA.
Apology pod! Can Wallabies win five in a row?
S
5:04Sam BruceHOST
Almost reminiscent of his missed shot there against Italy in the Dave Rennie era.
S
5:11Sam BruceHOST
He missed a pretty kickable conversion last week and I'm sure there'll be a real focus if he does get the chance to kick goals this weekend I mean Ryan Lonergan is kicking so well they're not going to take them away from him that responsibility are they at the moment so I think people off the back of a pretty solid Super Rugby season from Ben Donaldson probably his best in the West so far are keen to see him have a run look I don't think there's any doubt that Carter Gordon is the man there at number 10 But I guess, Christy, at what point does Carter Gordon's run with injury become a bit of a concern? He returned to rugby from rugby league with that back injury and then had some issues on the spring tour, only played against Italy, was due to start that France test.
S
5:54Sam BruceHOST
and was ruled out on match eve um played i think it was nine of the reds 15 games in super rugby took a knock to the knee there then we've had the calf complaint liz kind of said well no there is no calf complaint but then yeah a week ago there was a calf niggle so look yeah there's a run of injuries and a lot of it will come from the way he plays the game there's not Probably been a fly half like him who can do both sides of the ball, put his body on the line, really like Steven Larkham in my mind.
S
6:24Sam BruceHOST
Bernie had a lot of similar issues and injury issues in his early days.
C
6:47Christy DoranHOST
yeah it is uh i think there was probably always going to be some issues off the back of that back injury you speak to most people that are familiar with the game who have had back issues it often ends up affecting their their legs in different ways um the good news is is that they're going to be aware of that and and let's kiss will be aware of that more than anyone given that he played under him for a couple of years, or anyway, the last year with the Queensland Reds.
C
7:15Christy DoranHOST
So that's the positive news.
C
7:18Christy DoranHOST
I think the other thing is Ryan Lonergan goal-kicking takes off.
C
7:21Christy DoranHOST
Yes, Carter Gordon will be getting some reps because you never know if an injury is going to strike throughout a game.
WALKING AROUND
I
8:41Ian PaytenHOST
His pass, which everyone has criticised for years now, I think it's not as bad as people point to, but on the weekend it was, kicking as well.
I
8:50Ian PaytenHOST
And also just one issue the Wallabies have had this year is a bit of the continuity and the connection has disappeared when Lonergan and whoever the starting 10 have gone off.
I
9:01Ian PaytenHOST
It does seem to suffer, yeah.
I
9:02Ian PaytenHOST
Yeah, it definitely seems to suffer.
M
9:33Michael AtkinsonHOST
wasn't great.
M
9:34Michael AtkinsonHOST
There's two things to that.
M
9:35Michael AtkinsonHOST
I think that Lonergan's rise and consistency for the starting.
M
9:41Michael AtkinsonHOST
He's okay, by the way.
Lasers, One More Dance & Rats v Beasties
M
16:20Michael AtkinsonHOST
You talked about combinations being important.
M
16:23Michael AtkinsonHOST
If it does end up being Ben Donaldson and Ryan Lonergan in the 10 and the 9, respectively, they actually have been picked in the same test match 23 five times, but they've never played a minute of test match rugby together.
M
16:35Michael AtkinsonHOST
That's such a wild start.
M
16:37Michael AtkinsonHOST
Ben Donaldson is a very accomplished player.
B
17:59Bernard FoleyGUEST
You don't change that.
B
18:00Bernard FoleyGUEST
You keep instilling confidence in your kicker.
M
18:02Michael AtkinsonHOST
Can I ask you from the perspective of someone who still plays in the number 10 jersey, how important is that experience with your halves partner? Coming in and playing alongside someone like Ryan Lonergan, who looks so comfortable in test match rugby, must help whoever the 10 is.
B
18:19Bernard FoleyGUEST
Always.
Sports Drive - Mitch Hardy (01/09/2026)
M
3:48Mitch HardyGUEST
I think Carter Gordon did a pretty good job on the weekend.
M
3:50Mitch HardyGUEST
I actually thought Tate McDermott did really well when he came off the bench as the number nine, taking over from Ryan Lonergan.
M
3:56Mitch HardyGUEST
But you certainly wouldn't be swapping them out at the moment.
M
3:59Mitch HardyGUEST
But, you know, I still feel that Ben Donaldson deserves a crack at that starting 10 jersey at some point in time.
RE-CAP: Wallabies win ugly in Argentina
L
1:37Lachie GreyHOST
Wallabies 27, uh, tries to Brandon Panguramosa, Carter Gordon, Fraser McWright, and Tom Hooper.
L
1:43Lachie GreyHOST
Two conversions, Ryan Lonergan and a penalty, uh, defeated Argentina 21.
L
1:48Lachie GreyHOST
So tries to Prisciantele, Mora, and Wagner, and three conversions to Carrera.
L
1:53Lachie GreyHOST
So it was on late, uh, for the Argies.
10 MINS LATER
M
12:21Mitch FosterHOST
What, what are your thoughts on that? Does that feel right for you?
L
12:23Lachie GreyHOST
you?Yeah, I think so.
L
12:25Lachie GreyHOST
I think scramble is probably the best term, and no one showed that more than I think Ryan Lonergan and Max Jorgensen.
L
12:32Lachie GreyHOST
They both had really clutch moments, um, saving in both corners.
PLAY-BY-PLAY: Wallabies vs Argentina with Off The Ruck
J
8:36John FergusonGUEST
That's exactly what we were talking about, and the acrobatics from Brandon Pangouramosa at the end to be able to catch, dance in pirouette almost in midair, and then lunge for his final and his only one movement there in that situation gets the five-pointer.
J
8:54John FergusonGUEST
Doesn't make it an easy kick for Ryan Lonergan on the edge, but I do believe that Ryan Lonergan, don't wanna put the knocker on him, but I tell you what, he's been kicking pretty decently for the Wallabies no matter where it's been.
J
9:05John FergusonGUEST
Have I just put the knocker on him? Let's find out.
J
9:08John FergusonGUEST
Yes, I have.
L
9:44Lachie GreyHOST
It's almost a dream start after getting bashed in the first five Wallabies with the opening blow of this test.
L
9:51Lachie GreyHOST
Kick-off deep into the 22, top right of the screen at home if you're watching along as the Wallabies look to consolidate and exit their red zone.
L
9:59Lachie GreyHOST
Caterpillar set, an extra foot or two for Ryan Lonergan.
L
10:03Lachie GreyHOST
Gunshot at the back and pulls the trigger.
