RV Investigator

So, if it disappeared thousands of years ago, how can we possibly know what it looked like? Well, that's where this week's news comes in.

Thousands of years later, a research ship called the RV Investigator has been floating above the ancient landscape.

Researchers recently completed a 24-day expedition to the southern Great Barrier Reef using sonar to map what's hidden below.

Sonar uses sound waves to map the sea floor.

Now, the Pacific Ocean is being impacted by warming waters and yet is one of the regions with the least data and observations.

But thanks to an Australian research vessel, the RV Investigator recently landed in Fiji ahead of its 80-day voyage to collect vital data.

So what is actually happening beneath the surface of our ocean as climate changes? On the line to discuss this more is Chief Scientist on board the Investigator, Dr Bea Benamolino.
