Ruth Pearl

Judea has shared that Daniel's life personified joy, empathy, and the courageous pursuit of truth.

This lecture is part of Daniel's legacy, made possible through the Daniel Pearl Foundation and the extraordinary vision of his parents, Judea and the late Ruth Pearl.

This year, we welcome Wall Street Journal correspondent, Evan Gershkovich, whose imprisonment in Russia reminds us why we must defend both a free press and the journalists who risk their own freedom for it.

It is a rare gift that the Pearl family has bestowed on their UCLA community, the opportunity not only to bear witness, but also to transform that into action by teaching generations of students, teaching them to choose curiosity over prejudice, evidence over lies, and humanity over hate.
