Ruth Ozeki was born to an American father and Japanese mother.

And as well as being a Zen Buddhist priest, she's best known as the author of L.A. Times prize winning novel, A Tale for the Time Being, and more recently, The Book of Form and Emptiness, which won the 2022 Women's Prize for Fiction.
