Russ Columbo

This is the day of the crooner.

Rudy Vallee and Bing Crosby and, uh, Russ Columbo are battling it out to be the biggest star in the country with this new style of singing, crooning into the microphone rather than shouting to the rafters the way Al Jolson and old J- and Dave Macon and, had done.

You know, they're crooning into the mic, and I, I'm very curious as to how that interrelated 'cause you listen to Jimmie Rodgers with Louis Armstrong, and then you go hear Bing Crosby with Bix Beiderbecke and the Paul Whiteman, and it's, it's pretty competitive.

I mean, they're, they're both very hip acts doing jazz, blues, bluesy stuff at the same time.

... is, like, blow into these jugs, you know? And kinda like I said earlier about the Rolling Stones, like while they were trying to emulate one, they wound up accidentally creating another, and-

Yep

... you see a lot of that, and that circles back to what you were saying about Jimmie Rodgers, you know, thinking he was Bing Crosby, and even though he wasn't, I mean, you see a guy, you know, where you've, we've all seen pics of him, right? He's got, like, you know, the railroad cap and the dirty denims and the guitar, and he's got his thumbs poked out, and you're not expecting that kind of guy to be the man who'd give Russ Columbo competition.

[laughs]

In fact, the first Academy Awards ceremony was held there in the late 20s.

Carol frequently saw her ex-lover Russ Colombo there, and she also saw other acts perform at the famed Cinegrill in the early 30s.

And it was her later affair that forms the basis of this ghost story, specifically her romance with Clark Gable.

It was here that she started her tryst with Hollywood's own Rhett Butler.

Noted paranormal and clairvoyant Peter James claims that he has contacted both Gable and Lombard in the suite, while some guests and staff say they've seen Carol's ghost wandering around the 12th floor.

A few have claimed to have seen Carol's ghost in the Hollywood Boulevard home she owned in the mid-30s when she was known as Finland's best party giver.

Some say her appearance is that in a bright red dress and that her spirit may be looking for the ghost of Russ Colombo, who likely visited the house before his unexpected death in September of 1934.

Another commonplace for lumbar ghost sightings is in Nevada.
