Oh, I hate her so much.

Oh, my fucking God, I hate Rupi Kaur so much.

I will stand on that.

We have people who have laid the ground that we walk on.

And I think it's Rupi Kaur that says, I stand on the shoulders of 10,000 women who have come before me.

And so I immediately I thought about the ancestors, the angels, all of the people who wish you well, all of the people who love you.

They stand in whatever room you walk into with you.

We are emotional beings.

It defines who we are." I wanted to share this poem by Rupi Kaur from her book Milk and Honey, which someone gave me in the last few weeks, and I'm so grateful, and I actually devoured it in a couple of days.

This poem is called The Type of Lover I Need, and I chose this poem because for me, burlesque has helped so, so hugely, and what I have mentioned in the episode is how the audience clearly relate to at least some of what I share.

So here is a poem that I feel matches the episode really beautifully.

It's just kind of poetry to me, and poetry's always been about expressions.

But yeah, I wasn't aware that this era of modern poetry had taken off in the U.S., And there were some other prominent poets, like Rupi Kaur, who did

Milk and

Party.

Yeah.

I want to say Rupi Kaur Are you calling her out? I am but I'm only following the trend of like every other person who kind of realized that her writing wasn't that well it is great but in a way that is is simpler than a lot of people gave it credit for and so the overrating comes from discussing it as if it were deep, complex.

I mean, this is me saying, I haven't really, I've kind of skimmed like one of my

books.

I think that's a great, I mean, I completely agree with that.

Yeah.

Rupi Kaur is no Douglas Adams.

No, fair enough.

Yeah.

Um, I really liked Emily Dickinson before I got into poetry just you know regular life I would read some of her stuff here and there and I liked it and I think she probably she must have influenced me over time just nature poetry and things like that um as I got into poetry as I was writing there are a bunch of poems uh poets that I love now um but Rupi Kaur she She really paved the way for more accessible poetry on Instagram and things like that.

I read her book and it was really awesome to see how she could write something so beautiful with simple words and just really reach out and grab your heart like that.

So she influenced me.
