The deal was secured two days after the script went out with the duo, so the two writers, Blake and Kobe, with the duo's reputation attached, sending the script in backpacks filled with fake money to high-profile executives and producers at Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, TriStar Pictures, and New Line Cinema.

So then the following month, it was reported that Disney was planning to film the script in August of that year with a budget of around $10 million.

And then Rupert Wainwright was hired as a director in his future debut, having previously directed music videos for NWA and MC Hammer, as well as the 1991 television film.
