Rundle Street

She used to like to wear her COVID masks as underwear to make a point about her views about vaccination.

When she was 40, she was found guilty at trial of intentionally causing harm to South Australian Police Constable Anthea Beck in an incident that happened on Rundle Street in 2021.

The trial found she had kicked and punched Constable Beck, who was pregnant at Mm-hmm.

Now, on June 2nd of 2025, the Court of Appeal found that Cruz's original sentence was suspended in error and jailed her for more than three years with a two-year non-parole period.

So the four titles, four national titles in Adelaide, which was pretty cool.

Yeah, I can remember being over in Melbourne in 97, then seeing the footage working for nine of everyone in Rundle Street, you know, on the roofs of their cars.

I thought, I want to go home.

I want to get back there.

And that's why I was so delighted we got the state government over the line with Hindley Street, but also making sure that we maintain our infrastructure and make sure that The streets that are not doing as well as Hindley Street get investment and attention and have events happen in them as well.

Just anecdotally, though, when I drive around the city, and I'll give you the Rundle Street example where, you know, 20 years ago, it's a while ago, but you drive down there and find a park easily and drop into a coffee shop, have a coffee, get back in the car, you're on your way.

Can't do that now.

Those parks that existed on the street have gone.

So let's stick to the facts.

We have more street car parking than any of the capital cities, and it's cheaper.

And let's also remember, I remember Rundle Street when it was like a country town.

Now we have outdoor dining, which occupies car parking spaces.

Heidi Street, we were kind of there and then sort of that was probably more 80s.

And I think 90s, it sort of morphed into Rundle Street, you know, So it sort of kept changing around.

But in the 80s, it was going out Wednesday night.

I think Thursday was a late night trade.

Whether it's in Australia, you've got your house and you've got your space and you catch up with friends or you go out at a certain time, but no one's going to be in a piazza on a Monday night in Adelaide, are they?

No.

Do you know what I mean? Like Rundle Street, there's tumbleweed going down Rundle Street on a Monday night.

Everything's closed.

suppose because you can't go onto Rundle Street anyway, Rundle Mall anyway.

Yeah, you've got to

turn left or right on King William.

But I get to go and see the Ritzy Kids next, this weekend on Saturday.

They're playing at the Austral Hotel, which is, it lost its live music for a little while, but it's back again now and it's on Rundle Street.

It's a pretty cool pub.

I think they should go really well there.

And I remember the first time I listened to Kraftwerk, I was just all like, what the hell is this music? Yeah.

what is after after you like after having like you know the sex pistols and like the clash and all this stuff but all of a sudden there's always electronic stuff and I was like this is like future music this is music is space music it was so no idea what it was and it used to I think it kind of the journey really started from there and mum would pick me up sort of from sports or something on a Saturday and we'd go do record shopping you know down Rundle Street and then because my stepdad was one of the founding members of what was 5 Triple M now called 3D Radio.

My mum dutifully had a radio show on Saturday afternoons and so she'd pick me up from school and we'd go a bit of a record shop and then she'd go in and do her radio show and I'd be left alone in the music library at Triple M and I was, I must have been sort of 10, 11 or something around that stage and then finding 12 inches and like all those you know Arthur Baker and Shep Pettibone and you know Tom Walton all these names started jumping out to me and um it really kind of just kind of started from there and then you know when the first things of like rap and hip-hop started appearing on Countdown you know things like Malcolm McLaren and Rocksteady Crew and all that sort of stuff and I remember mum saying this is really important youth culture you need to pay attention to this stuff and you know she's She was very responsible for me sort of getting into it.

And I think sort of the first time I saw Scratching, like I would have been Herbie Hancock rocker, you know, and I was pretty much like, that's what I'm going to do.
