So we, the, in the, that time, um, the sex trafficking is happening in, in, um, you know, Los Angeles a lot.

But then I met Ruchira Gupta, who works at, in India for an, um, an APNE app.

Um, and she helps rehabilitate girls, take, pick them out of the life, 'cause the brothel system there is so horrible.

You never get out.

Today, I'll be talking with another incredible organizer, activist, and friend who is a dear and close friend of Gloria's and who served as many things, including her partner on work in India and around the world.

Ruchira Gupta is an Emmy-winning journalist and the founder of Apne Up, an anti-trafficking organization that supports women and girls in exiting systems of prostitution.

She is an internationally recognized activist, and she has played a key role in the creation of the UN Trust Fund for Trafficking Survivors and the passage of the U.S.

Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

She holds honorary doctorate from Smith College, and in this work, she developed a close friendship with Gloria Steinem.

I actually know Ruchira from decades ago, and so it is a true honor and pleasure to welcome her to the show to continue this conversation.
