Ruby Valley

I'm Miranda Reiman with the Angus Journal, and this segment features Logan Samson of Birch Creek Angus who is in the running.

Today, I'm with Logan Samson from Ruby Valley, Nevada.

And Logan, we'll just kinda jump right into it.

Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and your involvement in the Angus breed?

So thank you, uh, right off the bat.

Um, my name's Logan Samson.

I am from Ruby Valley, Nevada, as you said.

I've lived here off and on since early 2000, uh, with my... on my parents' ranch here.

No. No.

So where did you start? When you first went out to Ruby Valley, where were you at?

We were probably, I was pretty well along in this.

When I left Wyoming, my grandfather was still in charge of things, and we sold our Hereford calves for about, they weighed about 400 pounds.

He stopped for gas, then continued west on Interstate 80, another 125 miles to West Wendover, Nevada, refueling again there.

From there, he drove roughly 100 more miles south into Nevada's Ruby Valley to the ranch of a family named Neff.

Stephen had previously dated their daughter, Anne Marie, and had visited the ranch before.

Anne Marie wasn't there, but the Neff family welcomed him anyway, served him lunch, and listened as he told them he was thinking of continuing on to Sacramento to visit relatives.
