Ruby Mace

She marshalled them well from the back for Everton.

I think Ruby Mace also had a really good game.

She is looking so at home in that midfield.

And the relationships around her are looking good.

She picked apart our midfield.

I also have to praise Ruby Mace.

I think, defensively, she had to recover a lot for us.

So she couldn't be scoring goals.

And no one is finding the back of the net.

Their leading goal scorer right now is Ruby Mace.

They'll start games really strong and just don't seem to finish.

But just in those last couple weeks, right before the national break, they lost to Everton 2-1, which I think is a bit of a disappointment for them, just considering if you look at overall the season before that, I almost would have thought Birmingham City at least would have drawn.

Ruby Mace came through in that one for Everton, scoring the two goals.

But then, obviously, right after the international break, they drew against Arsenal and they scored first on that breakaway.

Yeah, and I think we can talk about that now because I think me and you have both discussed the perfect player for this system.

No offence to Lexi Potter, who I think has been excellent, but I'm going to have to say again for the 18 millionth time on this podcast, Ruby Mace.

Ruby Mace is so perfect for this system.

She's so perfect to be that player, to sit alongside Walsh and just be reliable on the ball, under pressure, mop up.

I think the main thing for me with Walsh is we've been talking about this formation in the context of these Greece games where, again, no offence to Greece, but defensively, I know Greece did score in the first leg, but... we didn't really need to worry that much.

Yeah.

Or one of the defensive midfielders.

Yeah, and again, this is what we were, I think we were both sort of driving at with Ruby Mace, is if you're out of possession, if the full-back, sorry, if your wing-back jumps forward, you know, if your Maya Leticia jumps forward, then if you've got a Ruby Mace, she can drop back to sit alongside Williamson.

Players that have good fixtures coming up, um, even if it's not this week, in the next two or three weeks.

But one name that did surprise me a little bit, and Izzy I'm, I'm intrigued to see what your thoughts are here because not many people have taken her out either, but Ruby Mace is actually the second most transferred in player.

This week she's away at London City Lionesses.

I mean, she has scored 50% of Everton's goals this season, but that is two out of four, which she did in one game.

Even if she's on top form, you know, people need to set up the goals for her or, or how it, or whatever it is.

So, you know, I don't really want to put my eggs in that basket right now.

Um, but I think with fantasy games, particularly in the WSL, name recognition goes a long way, so I imagine a lot of the discourse about Ruby Mace not making it into the, to the Lionesses squad despite her, um, good performances, perhaps people are putting a bit of stock in that and hoping that she comes good, uh, in the next leg.

I don't think it's the worst option.

league with this basically and there was a whole thing about goal gate we didn't score any goals but we won two games own goals mainly due to Mamiki and Holly McNamara our new Australian superstar that we got from the Australian league Will we see this as a problem? We scored our first two goals recently against Birmingham City, Ruby May scoring both of those goals.

So hopefully that has broken the no-goal curse for Everton women, but we will only have to see that against London City Lionesses this weekend for our first game back after international break.

London City Lionesses are currently third in the WSL.

So if you're not a big Everton women's fan, Scott Feeling is our manager.

He is the, not permanent, but the current Everton women manager who was like promoted from coaching staff.

to head manager head coach I should say and I don't know to be honest he knows the players very well and I think he is a breath of fresh air compared to Brian Sorensen which isn't that big of a flex no offence but he knows the players well he plays them in their actual position the fact that we're seeing Ruby Mace at centre mid and not at centre back is genuinely a miracle and I think that the players that we have signed over summer are very promising so I don't want him out, but I think we do need someone new in.

Is that an answer? Not really, but that's the answer I'm going to give.
